Last November, Twenty One Pilots rolled into Birmingham with their Blurryface Tour in support of their critically-acclaimed album of the same name. Last night, they were back for their 3rd Birmingham show within a year! (Do we feel lucky? Yes yes yes!)
Opening the night were electro-chill outfit Transviolet. Twenty One Pilots have a knack for bringing out chilled out / different support acts, with Jeremy Loops supporting in November. It’s a plan that I never quite understand, as they’re a the polar opposite in terms of genre and mood.
I guess the reason bands like Transviolet and Jeremy Loops can come out on the road with Twenty One Pilots is because the headliners need nothing but the lights to go down on stage to trigger a cataclysmic wall of sound from the crowd. Last night was no different. Opening with HeavyDirtySoul and Stressed Out hyped the crowd and I can genuinely say that everyone in the room was singing every vocal back. At one point, Tyler missed a line because of a stage mishap (dropping an instrument) – but that wasn’t an issue, the crowd more than had his back.
If you ever get the chance to see Twenty One Pilots, do it. You will not regret it; they have easily one of the best live sets and one of the best stage atmospheres in the game right now!
