Welcome to the twenty-first instalment of our weekly series; The Kings of Kickstarter. Last week found us deep in the vaults of the great Kickstarter Library, dusty tomes crumble at the touch, but shining stories of masterful design hide amongst the many shelves. From a journalistic scent to a metallic origami lamp, the exalted elite of 7 days past can look back with pride as they pass on the kingdom to their charges. As per usual NUBI has procured 5 Kings (and of course one jester) and presented them below. Now ranked in descending order, only one can claim the title of Supreme Overlord
#5. Gest: Work With Your Hands – Gest
“Gest is a wearable device that allows you to control your computer or mobile device with your hands.”
Although the technology we use on a day-to-day basis is shifting so rapidly, how we input and physically interact with it is has ultimately remained unchanged. The sovereign masters of keyboard and mouse are long overdue replacements and the guys at Gest are hellbent on doing just that. Gest as the name suggests works through the gestures you make with your hand. Moving a mouse becomes as simple as pointing at the screen, editing a photo becomes a series of wrist twists and flicks. It’s real strength however lies in the devices versatility. Open to programming, you can decide what gestures you want to represent as on-screen actions, then the clever strap on tech does the rest, measuring your movements with a high degree of accuracy to recognise them as you replicate them. Gest translates to whatever the task, whether you’re drawing, typing, modelling, presenting, or composing, Gest can learn the meanings you ascribe to those motions, transforming how we interact with the technology we so heavily rely on.
