#4. Implosion: ZERO_DAY – Mentat Studios LLC
“A digital odyssey that urges the viewer to reconsider the way we interact as a species, and how we think about our place in the universe.”
Mobile gaming has thrown out some gems and nightmares in equal measure. Games like Candy Crush Saga, Clash of Clans & Flappy Bird have engrossed and probably “freemiumed” millions of people. But nothing seems to have pushed the boundaries of the ever-strengthening hardware now found in mobile phones. Until Rayark Games dropped Sci-Fi Hack’n’Slash Implosion – Never Lose Hope which blew everything out of the water, hell I even stopped playing My Horse. Now Mentat Studios have approached Kickstarter to fund Implosion: ZERO_DAY, a full-length feature animation, set twenty years before the events of the mobile game. Judging from the trailer and the fact they’ve already found $100K this looks like a visual feast enwreathed in an emotive storyline. The film weaves together various animation styles from East and West, whilst introducing motifs of High-Fantasy, Cyberpunk and Space Opera to boot. The concept artwork looks sumptuous and with 40 full days still to run on Kickstarter, one of the highest rated mobile games looks set to get an incredible film adaptation.
