Welcome to the thiry-sixth instalment of our weekly series: The Kings of Kickstarter. Serving up more crowdfunding proclamations than you can shake a sceptre at. Our last Kings saw us launch our first video decree, and a showcase of everything from iPhone mods to Dutch bottled chocolate.  As per usual, NUBI has procured 5 Kings (and of course one jester) and presented them below.  Now ranked in descending order, only one can claim the title of Supreme Overlord.

#5. 3Dvarius – 3Dvarius

“The 3Dvarius is an electric violin created by 3D printing technology and based on the model of a real Stradivarius violin.”

The automatic association with electric violin is Vanessa-Mae (although apparently she’s now a skier) but 3Dvarius just trumped that. Modelled after a Stradivarius violin, it looks like someone got Fassbender to prize off a piece of the animus set from the new Assassins Creed film.

3D printed in one piece, no sound resonance is lost in the joints and the simplified tuning mechanism – more native to that of a guitar – means the 3Dvarius not only looks beautiful but plays beautifully too. It has been the dream of violinist and engineer Laurent Bernadac for almost 5 years and he’s finally realised it. He even went as far as facing off against a legit Stradivarius and as far as we can tell fared pretty damn well.
