Greetings ladies and gentlemen, it appears that the radio has sung you a sweet lullaby and the sandman of mainstream has kept you in a blissful, deep slumber. Well consider this a bucket of ice in you face, this is your rude but welcome awakening guys.

See I reckon I could bet money on peeps you guys and gals have been sleeping on, so here goes…10 artists/music people you dropped a kingsize bed on!!!

  1. Ta-Ku

Ta-ku, coming straight out of Perth, Australia this guy is at the forefront of a new movement in underground instrumental hip-hop. His versatility is mind-boggling and his sample library should be one of the wonders of the world, his mixes for Hypetrak the Drive Slow series are a must have in your music library

  1. Alex Isely

This lady snatched my soul up and attached a leash to it only the other day. I haven’t stopped running and doubt I will for some time, she has a truly open and beautiful tone to her voice. Coupled with some great production, killer harmonies and subtly reaching songwriting I’m sure she’ll have you running along with me. Check out DreamsInAnalog

  1. Nick Hakim

I’ve included this guy in the Similar Tuneage section for FKA-Twigs (check out my review of her LP1 if you haven’t already) but I do think he deserves a little more plugging than just that. He has what I’d call an honest voice…not the best in the world necessarily but imperfect enough and well used to make you really feel something deep down for him. With his incredible guitar based production, great harmonies he really sets a nice mood for this season.

  1. Ebrahim

I’ve been a fan of this guy since I was about 18, this guy is what I wish I could be musically. An incredible beatboxer, singer and musician he brings a beautiful, raw twist to a lot of already great songs. To give you an example of just how fresh he is he got me liking a Britney and a Selena Gomez song…get it? Yeah I thought so…I’m done…check out his youtube: eebsofresh and his bandcamp: eebsofresh.bandcamp.com

  1. Clear Soul Forces

Many artists talk about being the “return of the boom-bap”, that coveted and much loved sound of 90’s hip-hop. Few reach that caliber though and while many of you will jump up and down in your seat abuzz with Pro-Era and Joey Badass love I’m going to stop you right there. Three words…Clear Soul Forces. This quartet is quite possibly the most dangerous ensemble I’ve heard in hip-hop in the past decade…only possibly matched by Black Hippy, Child Rebel Soldier or All City Chess Club (if these final two would actually do something together!!!) Incredible new skool boom-bap beats, monstrously skilled lyricism and ninja and comic references for days? I’m happy…check out the album Detroit Revolutions.

  1. M-Phazes

Another from the land of Oz, this time it’s M-Phazes. This guys actually been around a while now, he’s produced for Talib Kweli, Eminem and Logic. Yet somehow a lot of you still missed him…well no more. With a great versatile style of hip-hop he’s been behind the scenes long enough and with a new album coming in 2015 there’s no better time to get behind him than now. With an obvious influence from Prince he’s a refreshing face in amidst a lot of the up and coming beatmakers today. Check out his Kimbra remixes on youtube as a nice starting point.

  1. Blu

This guy dropped on of the best hip-hop albums of the last decade, Lupe Fiasco declared he is the only guy who “scares” him and he works with the producer who bought Aloe Blacc up into the game in the first place…You still don’t know his name right though, and you’d probably still forget to drop the E (check the song drop the E). Easily one of the most eloquent, overlookedand comedic mc’s out right now, Blu matches his wit and everyman storytelling with a technical skill that would leave Shakespeare slack jawed. When partnered with Exile’s beats or his own for that matter it makes for a lethal combination. With his beautifully creative approach and ever shifting style Blu is someone you’ll really be glad to have finally found. Check out Below the Heavens, you’re welcome

  1. Jay Prince

I’m going to ask you to describe a british mc…no doubt you’ll mention someone who inevitable leads to the grime stereotype. Well I present Jay Prince; coming straight out of London Jay Prince has really carved his own niche in British music as well as on the world stage, rhyming over beats by the likes of Stwo and getting remixed by Chloe Martini (soundcloud them) he sounds nothing like your typical road man. I’m not even going to tell you anymore but I urge you to wake up to this breath of fresh air, check out his Sky High ep.

  1. Braeden Bailey

This 19 year old hails from Dallas, USA, I’m not even sure how to describe his music to be honest. He’ll go from trap to fusion jazz to spaced out RnB to hip-hop that has me walking down the road freestyling and looking slightly more out my mind than I’d probably like…He’s got a soundtrack for any mood or time of the day, just hit up his Soundcloud and see, his Kendrick Lamar remixes and Love Letters ep are a nice vantage point for the rest of the madness.

  1. Soulection

This record label and radio show is a gateway to a world that you will never want to leave…do you want to know that it is? This is your red pill, I am Morpheus, and this is Wonderland. Remember all I’m offering is the truth.  Ok enough Matrix references…simply put though these guys are awesome you have listening material for the whole of 2015 here before you even catch up to their present releases. Check out their Soundcloud and prepare to be wowed.
