The King Is Here: Black Panther Teaser Trailer

Ladies and gentlemen, the first teaser trailer for the King of the MCU, Black Panther has arrived.  This is not a drill, we now have our first look at what could yet be Marvel Studio’s greatest offering.  So I, an avid fan, head-canon Wakandan, aptly nicknamed “Black Panther” by friends am here to put you up on why this is such a big deal and what you may have missed.

So let’s start with 5 major facts about T’challa just to have you know the levels of what you’re about to witness…

1. Baller…

Think of rich comic characters, Batman worth 9.2 billion that’s nice.  Tony Stark aka Iron Man worth 12.4 billion some big boy bucks there surely.  Dr. Doom, 35 billion, surely BP can’t be that far past right? Well, let’s take into consideration he is the King of Wakanda, the most technologically advanced nation in the Marvel universe, where a genius teenage Ph.D. student from the States went to high school in Wakanda and was still several years behind what they were learning.  So ready for the numbers? You sure? Ok then…90.7 trillion.

Need I say more?

2. Brains…

Black Panther isn’t simply a King with great fashion sense, he’s also a genius.  The guy has a Ph.D. from Oxford in physics, created his own field of science called shadow physics and has outsmarted people like Dr. Doom and Tony Stark in battle citing that his father taught him, “to think two steps ahead of enemies and three steps ahead of friends”.

3. Brawn too though…

Now the term peak human is thrown around comics a lot, essentially this means the maximum speed, strength, durability, and balance a human can reach without magic, genetic or technological enhancement.  Yes, Black Panther is generally held as peak human, slightly above actually but so you really understand what this gifted him…this guy has one shot a T-rex, took down rhinos and elephants without much apparent effort and almost punched the jaw OFF Red Skull…

4. Dem paws though…

Please understand though, he’s not just some wham brute swinging haymakers.  T’challa has trained since birth practically and is stated to have mastered every martial art on the planet along with secret Wakandan styles known only to the natives.  This puts him at a skill level that I’m not going to gas…but is stated to mean he could put Captain America, Wolverine, Iron Fist and Daredevil down in a few moves if he absolutely needed to…think about that

5. He’s also the Avatar…

As if all this isn’t cool enough BP in strong tradition of the ancestor worship present in various iterations of African culture can commune with all the previous Black Panthers and access their knowledge and skills to aid him…so basically it’s the black man’s Avatar state…if you’re still lost watch The Last Airbender and Legend Of Korra series’, you’re welcome.

Here’s some extra reading if you truly want to see how much of a badass he is…

Now, this teaser trailer…I’ve been waiting 20 years for this.  Ever since I was first introduced to Black Panther by my father I’ve wanted a movie.  Now I’ve had my first look, as I said to a friend I felt an emotional and spiritual attachment to this.  We are seeing possibly the greatest example of Afro-futurism play out in a film, a nation that was never invaded, stolen from that continued to thrive ahead of the rest of the world.

A cast of 90% black people and a damn stellar cast at that; Forrest Whitaker and Angela Bassett, Lupita Nyong’o and Michael B Jordan?  This will set a new standard for comic book movies and diversity.  There are lots of small details in the trailer that excite me in unspeakable ways, Killmonger’s mask, seeing Man-Ape and Shuri, T’challa’s new suit, even the little explanation that Wakanda fronts as a typical 3rd world country (which explains the whole weird portrayal in Age Of Ultron).

All I can say is this confirms a lot.  We’ve been speculating on this film for a while, the aesthetic, quality, vibe and it seems to be hitting all the marks.  So in the event, any of you see this…Ryan, Chadwick, Lupita, the whole team, thank you, you’ve made my dream come true and so many others and I’m sure I speak for all of us when I say we can hardly wait for the full trailer and film next, go get ’em!!!!
