After months of increasing promotions, culminating in the destruction of a New York City taxi by ‘Gorehowel’, the long awaited expansion Warlords of Draenor is finally here. With an estimated 8.5 million accounts live and building on Blizzcon last week, World of Warcraft is sitting on the peak of gaming this week. With each time zone around the world becoming active at midnight, Europe were the first to see the gathering of thousands of players awaiting The Dark Portal. With an incredible amount of latency, consistent server disconnects and resets, it became clear that Blizzard were not expecting the mayhem the Defenders of Azeroth would bring. With a new world, Draenor to explore, level cap being raised from 90 to 100 and the new addition of ‘garrisons’, a completely new concept to the game, players all around the world anxiously awaited the beginning…

After Archmage Khadgar handed out the first quest “The Dark Portal” of the expansion, my low populated server Anachronos disconnected, resetting every player back to the Shrine of the Seven Stars…annoyingly back into the previous expansion we were all hoping to leave behind for now. With several complaints on forums, Warlords of Draenor created a disappointing first impression, especially for players returning for this adventure. As servers calmed, 30 minutes later, more and more players began their adventure into The Dark Portal.  With on screen chat showing many discontented players, Blizzard quickly began addressing the issues and gameplay on Anachronos, at least started to improve.

With the realm first maximum level achievement removed, it seemed that many players were still in a race to reach max level. Reportedly 2 hours in, an exploit allowed a player to ‘boost’ to level 99, quickly having the account banned by the developers themselves. Continuing their exploration and hunt to find new gear and collectibles that Dreanor has to offer, a quickly growing number of players will achieve level 100 over the next few days.

Have you begun your new adventure in Warlords of Draenor? Are you FOR THE HORDE? Or FOR THE ALLIANCE? Have you already conquered the Iron Horde? Or are you waiting in a 3500 man queue to log on? Share your experiences in the comments below!
